The Cyprus Diabetic Association established in March 1979 with aim to fight ignorance about this metabolic disorder and to improve medical care and the life of diabetics in general. The Association had to fight many adversities and difficulties that had to do mainly with ignorance, absence of trained medical and paramedical personnel, as well as the absence of information and medication.

They established their head office in Nicosia and also district offices in Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Paralimni. They are active members of the International Diabetes Federation (I.D.F), European Region, as well as the I.D.F. Global. Their attention has been focused on educating the public on diabetes with lectures, seminars, and discussions in all towns as well as in the rural areas. In cooperation with the Ministry of Health they have issued many leaflets on all matters concerning diabetes, which are distributed free of charge.
